Do you live in a Firewise Community? Click here:
When it comes to wildfire, we are all in this together. Every one of us needs to do our part to reduce our risks and look out for one another in the case of an emergency. Here in Marin, we are fortunate to live in a vibrant community of engaged residents who care about the environment and appreciate our natural surroundings. This comes with a responsibility to be good stewards of our landscape and to look out for the wellbeing of the entire community.
Wherever you live, you need to adapt to the realities of your surroundings. In Tahoe, be prepared to clear snow; in the Florida Keys, get ready for hurricanes. Living in Marin means adapting to wildfire–together.
Community Partnerships
Fire Safe Marin joins with community partners to help all of our residents adapt to wildfire.
Firewise USA
The Firewise USA Program encourages local solutions for safety by involving homeowners in taking individual responsibility for preparing their homes from the risk of wildfire. The program provides resources to help homeowners learn how to adapt to living with wildfire while encouraging and empowering neighbors to work together to take action now to reduce their wildfire risk and prevent losses. Your neighborhood can join the growing network of more than 1,500 recognized Firewise communities taking action and ownership in preparing and protecting their homes against the threat of wildfire.
Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA)
Wildfires are bigger, burn longer, cause more damage, and kill more people than ever before. This new reality requires greatly expanding prevention, preparedness, and fuel-reduction efforts throughout Marin. The Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority is a coalition of local fire agencies, emergency service providers, and cities, towns, and county governments formed in 2020 to develop and implement a comprehensive wildfire prevention and emergency preparedness initiative in Marin.
Ecologically Sound Practices (ESP)
The Ecologically Sound Practices partnership is a collaboration between Marin’s fire authorities and climate and environmental advocacy organizations to mitigate the risk of wildfires in ways that maintain or enhance the natural environment. The coalition works as advisors to fire and natural resources professionals, defining best environmental practices to guide the implementation of wildfire hazard mitigation plans and offering expertise and recommendations on specific projects.
